Meet Juliet
I’m Juliet Potrykus, a mom of five, substitute teacher, freelancer, and small business owner in Yakima. Like so many working parents in our community, I wear a lot of hats—and that’s what keeps me connected to what my neighbors really need. I draw strength and inspiration from my Catholic faith to serve and better my community.I run a dog-sitting business out of my home, substitute teach in our local schools, and manage legal projects for a large apartment building downtown. I’ve advocated for decades behind the scenes to support families and children. I’ve also seen our school system up close, and I know we can do more to support kids and families.I deeply understand our systems because I’ve seen them from every angle– I worked for a decade in the U.S. Congress, lobbied for issues I care deeply about, and have also been a beneficiary of social safety net programs at difficult times for my family. My day-to-day life finds me advocating in courtrooms and across mediation tables, petitioning local elected officials on issues I care about as a parent, working with landlords, and helping neighbors stabilize their lives. I seek wisdom from God daily to help me serve my community. Now, I’m running for Yakima City Council District 4 to bring my fresh and common-sense advocacy and hands-on experience to the table. I believe in public safety, a balanced budget that reflects our community’s priorities, and innovative, community-driven solutions that support strong families and economic growth in Yakima.I’m already doing the work– now I am stepping up to lead. I’ll fight for safer neighborhoods, smarter budgets, and family-focused policies. I’m running for city council to create opportunities for my kids and yours!
